P1040641Another Firepit Story

Have you ever just totally disregarded a simple plan or idea to do something, thinking that you would not enjoy it? That is exactly what I did when my husband would repeatedly suggest to purchase a firepit. Of course my thinking was that I hate cold weather and to enjoy a firepit, you must stay outside in the cold rather than going in where it is cozy and warm. Well, the topic came up again this year and I disregarded the idea until we went to a class bonfire. Now I know there is a big difference between a bonfire and a firepit but we decided that it was worth a try.

We have enjoyed several lovely evenings sitting out at the firepit, talking and relaxing, watching the fire burn, while enjoying the peace and quiet. Of course, I can’t keep my hands off the poker. My husband now calls me the ‘poker lady.’ The other night, I packed all the necessary ingredients for roasting hot dogs  into a basket and headed out to the fire. It was very simple — one trip in and one trip out.  My brother came and added the ingredients to make some delicious smores. We got out the skewers and grilled our hot dogs. Later we topped the evening off by roasting marshmallows on the fire and making those absolutely delicious smores. So simple, yet so much enjoyment!!! I can hardly wait until the next time.

Focus on the Simple

If only we could focus on the simple things in life a little more often, think how enjoyable life could be. So many times we never get around to even trying the simple things in life. Our lives are so filled  with everyday clutter that we often disregard the concept before we ever try it,  just as I did the firepit because we don’t want to sacrifice the comforts or the conveniences that we are so accustomed to. Make it a point to try to take a break from daily activities, turn off the T.V., and begin enjoying the simple things in life all over again.
